FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are cartridge needles better than traditional bar / soldered needles?

Both have pros and cons, ultimately most tattoo artists adapt to both, while Bar Needles have always proved the test of time:

  • Cartridge needles: Encased in plastic housing; easy to swap; used in pen/rotary machines; good hygiene and convenience.
  • Traditional / bar needles (soldered): More custom configurations; can feel different under machines; may be preferred by artists who like more control or using coil machines.

The choice often comes down to your machine type, workflow, and personal preference.

How can you tell if a needle is safe / properly sterilised?
  • Check for sterility labels on packaging (e.g. EO gas sterilised).
  • there should be a sealed package with manufacturing date or expiry date.
  • Use single-use, disposable needles and avoid reusing or autoclaving already used needles.
  • Buy from trusted suppliers who follow EU/UK hygiene & safety standards.
Which needles are good for particular styles (e.g. fine line, realism, traditional)?
  • Fine line / script / micro-tats: small gauge, low needle count; Our DT or Bugpin variants have long taper helps achieve detail.
  • Realism / portraits / soft shading: curved magnums, Bugpin mags; precisely soldered with finesse, longer taper to smooth out blends.
  • Traditional / bold / colour packing: All of our bespoke magnum shaders; medium & long taper depending on preference, needles designed for heavier ink deposit and saturation!
